Haryana Roadways is preparing for a major expansion of its workforce and bus fleet, with the state Transport Department planning to recruit around 700 new conductors. Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij announced the development during a review meeting of the department held in Chandigarh on August 18, 2026.
The proposed recruitment is linked to the promotion of nearly 700 existing conductors. Once these employees are promoted, the resulting vacant conductor posts are expected to be filled through fresh recruitment.
Along with the recruitment plan, the Haryana government is moving ahead with the purchase of 500 electric buses, while a new Haryana Roadways mobile application featuring live bus tracking is expected to be launched within the next month.

During the review meeting, Transport Department officials informed the minister that around 700 serving conductors are due for promotion. The vacancies arising after these promotions are proposed to be filled by recruiting new conductors.
Anil Vij directed department officials to complete the necessary procedure at the earliest.
This means the recruitment proposal has moved beyond a general statement about manpower requirements, although candidates should note that a detailed recruitment advertisement containing eligibility criteria, application dates and the selection procedure has not yet been released.
500 Electric Buses to Join Haryana Roadways
The Haryana government is also planning to purchase 500 electric buses as part of its effort to expand green public transport. The move is intended to reduce dependence on conventional fuel-based public transport while modernising the Haryana Roadways fleet.
The state had earlier outlined plans for a substantial expansion of its bus fleet, including electric as well as conventional buses. In the latest departmental review, officials again confirmed the proposed procurement of 500 electric buses.
125 Ordinary Buses Also Being Prepared
Apart from the electric bus procurement, 125 ordinary buses are currently being prepared through the Haryana Roadways Engineering Corporation (HREC).
These buses are expected to add further capacity to the state transport network and support services on routes where additional buses are required.
The combined fleet expansion and recruitment of conductors indicate that the Transport Department is working on both manpower and operational capacity simultaneously.
Haryana Roadways Mobile App to Launch Within One Month
Passengers are also set to receive a major digital facility.
According to Transport Minister Anil Vij, the Haryana Roadways mobile app is targeted for launch within the next one month.
Transport Department officials presented the app during the review meeting, following which the minister directed them to incorporate additional passenger-oriented features and begin its trial at the earliest.
The application is planned for both Android and iOS devices.
Passengers Will Be Able to Track Live Bus Location
One of the biggest features of the upcoming Haryana Roadways app will be real-time bus tracking.
Passengers will be able to check the live location of Roadways buses and estimate when a particular bus is likely to reach a designated stop or bus stand.
This can be particularly useful for passengers travelling on routes where waiting times currently depend largely on fixed schedules or information available at bus stations.
The tracking infrastructure will also allow the Transport Department to monitor bus movement centrally. The government has directed that the application should be accessible in three languages:
- Hindi
- English
- Punjabi
This is intended to make the platform easier to use for a wider range of passengers travelling within Haryana and adjoining states.
Fare, Bus Timings and QR Code Facilities Planned
The Haryana Roadways app is expected to offer more than live tracking.
Planned passenger facilities include information about:
- Bus arrival timings: Passengers will be able to check the expected arrival time of buses at scheduled stops and bus stands.
- Live location: GPS-based tracking will show the current location of buses.
- Fare information: Travellers are expected to be able to check fares between different destinations.
- Bus-stop information: The system can help identify whether buses are stopping at designated or unauthorised locations.
- Digital QR code/card facilities: Passengers eligible for travel benefits under different government schemes may eventually be able to access digital QR codes or cards through the system.
The final list of services will become clear when the app is formally launched.
GPS to Be Installed in All Haryana Roadways Buses
The Transport Department also plans to install GPS systems in all Haryana Roadways buses.
The system will serve two purposes. Passengers will be able to track buses through the mobile application, while the department will be able to monitor route operations from its control centre.
Arrival and departure timings of buses at bus stands are also proposed to be digitally recorded.
If a driver fails to take a bus to its designated bus stand or deviates from prescribed operations, the monitoring system is expected to help the department identify the violation and establish accountability.
Digital Display Boards at Haryana Bus Stands
Another proposed passenger facility is the installation of digital information boards at bus stands across Haryana.
These boards are expected to display:
- Bus timings
- Arrival information
- Departure information
- Destinations
- Other journey-related updates
The system is intended to function in a manner similar to passenger information displays used at airports and major railway stations.
Haryana Roadways Conductor Jobs 2026: What Candidates Should Do Now
Candidates interested in the upcoming conductor recruitment should currently treat the development as an advance recruitment announcement.
There is no need to submit an application until the official recruitment advertisement is released.
Applicants should keep their educational certificates, identity documents, Haryana domicile or reservation documents where applicable, photographs and other commonly required recruitment documents ready.
The most important next development will be confirmation of the recruiting agency and release of the detailed notification.
Will There Be Exactly 700 Haryana Roadways Conductor Vacancies?
Not necessarily.
The government has stated that around 700 conductors will be recruited because approximately 700 existing conductors are due for promotion.
The exact number of vacancies may therefore change when the department completes its final vacancy calculation and issues the recruitment notification.
Candidates should rely on the vacancy figure mentioned in the eventual official advertisement for category-wise and total post numbers.
When Will Haryana Roadways Conductor Recruitment 2026 Start?
No application date has been announced yet.
Transport Minister Anil Vij has directed officials to complete the required recruitment-related procedure quickly, but neither an application commencement date nor a notification release date has been specified.
Consequently, reports claiming that online applications for the 700 posts have already started should be treated cautiously unless accompanied by an official recruitment notice.
